| Out-of-State Care Coordination Pilot Project | ||
L&I has established a pilot project to use nurse case managers to coordinate care for Washington injured workers residing out‑of‑state. The pilot dates are July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009. This is only for State Funds claims, not crime victims or self-insurers.
This care coordination referral is to ensure out‑of‑state injured workers find needed health care resources in a timely manner.
To assist injured workers in finding a doctor in their area, L&I has developed a lookup service, Find a Doctor. The information is updated daily. The search criteria includes provider type, specialty and zip code. Search results displays the provider's name, address and phone number. Being listed does not mean a provider is willing or able to accept a patient.
Referrals are made by L&I claim managers to ensure injured workers find needed health care resources in a timely manner. Nurse Case Managers (NCMs) are privately employed professionals. Referral is made to a NCM located in a geographic area near the injured worker. They are also familiar with the health care resources in that area.
Washington injured workers benefits do not change if they live outside Washington State. The right to receive treatment, time loss, vocational rehabilitation, permanent disability and other benefits remains intact.
