Experience Period

The Experience Period is "the oldest three of the four fiscal years preceding the effective date of premium rates" as specified in WAC 296-17-850 (2) (app.leg.wa.gov). As an example, for Rating Year 2018 the Experience Period runs from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016.

The Experience Modification Factor is calculated using the firm's Expected Losses during the Experience Period and the firm's Actual Losses during the Experience Period.

A claim will affect a firm's experience rating and premium rates for 3 years.
