The Experience Period is "the oldest three of the four fiscal years preceding the effective date of premium rates" as specified in WAC 296-17-850 (2) (www.leg.wa.gov). As an example, for Rating Year 2007 the Experience Period runs from July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2005.

The Experience Modification Factor is calculated using the firm's Expected Losses during the Experience Period and the firm's Actual Losses during the Experience Period.

A claim will affect a firms experience rating and premium rates for three years.
