Providing options for the employee to return to work while recovering may benefit the injured employee and reduce the financial impact on your workers' compensation rates.
If the doctor certifies your employee is unable to work due to the injury, he/she may be eligible for time-loss benefits. You can check on their physical restrictions in the Claim & Account Center. If you have a light-duty or modified job your employee could do while recovering, let the doctor know. Employees recover more quickly and retain their earnings more successfully if they can remain on the job. And, you could avoid rate increases that can be triggered by time-loss/disability benefits.
You can keep the injured employee on salary or return them as soon as possible to regular, modified or light duty work. Just provide a written description of the job duties to your employee's doctor for review and approval.
Important: Call your local L&I office if you need return-to-work help.
The Employer's Return-to-Work Guide (F200‑003‑000) provides employers with useful information about helping an employee to quickly and safely return to work.
