Out-of-State Injured Workers

Washington injured workers benefits do not change if they live outside Washington State. The right to receive treatment, time loss, vocational rehabilitation, permanent disability and other benefits remains intact.

However, the worker's responsibilities also continue. Injured workers who do not cooperate with these responsibilities may have their benefits stopped. Injured workers must:

Have an attending doctor manage their treatment and provide reports to L&I regarding the worker's continued eligibility for benefits.
Keep L&I informed of their current contact information (address and phone).
Cooperate in their treatment and return to work programs.
Notify L&I immediately if they return to any type of employment.
Cooperate with vocational rehabilitation assessments.
Attend L&I arranged independent medical examinations.
