Protest or Appeal Claim Decisions

Employers, injured workers and attending medical providers may protest L&I decisions. Protests are also known as “requests for reconsideration.”

Protests

If you do not agree with a claim-related decision made by L&I, you have the legal right to Protest a Claim Decision to L&I by letter or online.

You may appeal directly to the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals (BIIA) without first submitting a protest with L&I. However, after receiving your appeal, the BIIA will give L&I the opportunity to reconsider the original decision.
