Self-Insurance Electronic Data Reporting System (SIEDRS)
General
Will SIEDRS eliminate or replace any current processes?
No, SIEDRS will not replace any existing processes or requirements relating to claim adjudication or reporting. Self-insurers will continue to send all claim paperwork to L&I.
Technical
Are the SIEDRS data elements the same as those we send to the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards & Commissions (IAIABC)?
No. The data elements for SIEDRS will be different than those you send to the IAIABC. The SIEDRS data elements were determined by:
- SIEDRS reports. Representatives of the self-insured community requested quarterly reports that will require new information.
- L&I system and business requirements. The data you submit to SIEDRS must meet L&I requirements for doing business. For example, establishing a claim requires certain pieces of information, or data elements.
- Efforts to minimize the number of required elements. Minimizing the number of data elements reduces the work that submitters and L&I must do on their systems.
Is the Extensible Markup Language (XML) format a strict requirement?
Yes. To minimize the cost and complexity of the new system, L&I established one standard file format. L&I considers XML to be the industry standard for sharing data.
What application software should I use to open the XML and XML Schema Definition (XSD) files?
The XML and XSD files behave differently depending on the application used to open them. Here are 3 examples:
- Microsoft Visual Studio, Altova XMLSpy, or other XML editing software will display the syntax required by SIEDRS and facilitate use by programming staff.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer will not display the syntax required by SIEDRS but will provide a reader-friendly format.
- Microsoft Notepad will display the syntax required by SIEDRS but with a less reader-friendly format than Internet Explorer.
