Independent Medical Examiner (IME)
What you need to know about becoming an independent medical examiner
- To be paid for independent medical exams for L&I, you must be approved and be assigned an IME provider account number.
- You must have an individual IME provider account number, even if you are affiliated with an IME firm.
- You must reapply every 3 years.
- You must understand L&I requirements for Independent Medical Exams.
To apply as an IME provider
When L&I approves your application, we will notify you in writing.
- Complete the Medical Examiner's Handbook Certification Test and print a copy of the certificate of completion to submit with your application packet.
- Print and complete the IME Provider Account Application packet (F245-046-000).
- Mail a copy of your certificate of completion for the test along with the application packet to:
