The Ortho and Neuro Surgeon Quality Pilot project was developed to improve access to surgical care for injured workers. Participating providers get incentive payments based on meeting certain indicators for quality and efficiency. Every 6 months incentive payment levels are re-evaluated.

Medical providers were invited to participate in this pilot. These providers are currently participating in some or all of the cooperative quality improvement efforts which include:

• Development of this pilot; or
• Participation in the Centers for Occupational Health and Education (COHE); or
• Utilization Review Program Group A providers.

This pilot begins July 1, 2006 and ends December 31, 2009.

Anticipated results are to:

• Improve injured worker access to timely surgical care.
• Reduce physician administrative burden.
• Improve communication/coordination of care.
• Increase likelihood of timely rehabilitation and return to work.
