If there's a state government shutdown due to lack of a 2017 – 2019 Washington budget, many services provided by the Department of Labor & Industries would not be available starting July 1. L&I has a full list of service interruptions should there be a full or partial shutdown.

Workers' Comp Rules

Chapter 296-17 WAC, contains rules applicable to workers’ compensation insurance coverage (industrial insurance) that employers in the state of Washington must provide for their workers.

These workers' compensation rules ( are referred to as "sections" and the complete body of information as the Workers’ Compensation Underwriting Manual.

These rules include:

  • General reporting requirements.
  • Classifications.
  • Audit and record keeping.
  • Rates and the rating system.
