Job Summary:

This senior research Ergonomist will manage the Safety & Health Assessment & Research for Prevention (SHARP) Trucking Injury Reduction Emphasis (TIRES) Initiative. This position will develop and conduct ergonomic and safety research and application toward the reduction of work-related musculoskeletal disorder and occupational injuries, with emphasis on improving workplace design to reduce illness and injuries.

 

The Ergonomist 4 will:
  • Manage the TIRES project; which is to reduce the incidence of non-traumatic musculoskeletal disorders; slips, trips and falls; “struck by” and “caught in” injuries.
  • Perform statistical analyses to identify causes and prevent injuries.
  • Conduct research in Prevention and Control of Musculoskeletal Disorders.
  • Prepare federal grant applications for the program.
  • Publish papers in peer reviewed professional journals; review peer-reviewed papers submitted by staff for submission to journals.
  • Conduct ergonomics and safety laboratory and field studies; development and test new methods of intervention.
  • Provide systematic approach to evaluate intervention effectiveness in ergonomics and safety.
  • Serve as a resource and collaborate in Human Factors and Ergonomics issues.
  • Direct and supervise a team of researchers including research analysts and safety and health specialists.
  • Collaborate with the University of Washington and other research organizations on projects of mutual interests.

 


Preferred Qualification:

Ph.D. in ergonomics with two years related experience OR Master Degree in ergonomics with five years related experience.

Certification in ergonomics, with track record of peer reviewed publications in ergonomics and safety research.

  • Ability to manage people; recognizing performance problems, develop solutions, and solve problems.
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
