You are a Registered Nurse, licensed in Washington State. You have hospital-based case management experience over a wide variety of medical treatments. At L&I you’ll have your evenings, weekends, holidays, day-shift and no direct patient care.

 

L&I’s Occupational Nurse Consultant is part of a healthcare team comprised of doctors, pharmacists, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and other nurses who advocate for quality, medically necessary, care for workers injured on the job.

Being an Occupational Nurse Consultant provides a nurse the opportunity to use the knowledge gained in the acute care setting and medical case management skills to consult with non-medical staff on medical treatment, procedures, and home health care.

Occupational Nurse Consultants (ONC) will:
  • Serve as medical resource to Labor and Industries workers compensation claims staff.
  • Review claim files and compile accurate record of medical interventions.
  • Identify needs and assist injured worker to move toward independence within the limitations of their disability.
  • Consult with claims staff, providers, nurse case managers, or injured worker as appropriate
  • Communicate recommendations to claim staff on proper and necessary treatment.
  • Assess and authorize home health or long term care needs following an acute injury or hospital discharge.
  • Consult with members of other professional disciplines to improve the standard of care for injured workers.
  • Teach classes in Claim Training educating claim staff on medical issues, terminology, traumatic injuries, medical conditions and treatment.

Requirements:
  • WA State license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
  • Medical Case Management experience involving a wide variety of medical treatments.
  • Hospital-based clinical experience.
