Job Summary:

The Labor & Industries Electrical Construction Inspector inspects electrical installations in various stages of construction and enforces compliance with electrical licensing laws, state rules and the National Electrical Code, issuing citations or correction notices for safety violations. The inspector maintains and updates computer records as required by policy and procedure.

The Electrical Construction Inspector will:
  • Make electrical disconnects according to policy and procedures.
  • Check individuals and companies performing electrical installations for compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Conduct field investigations and compiles investigation reports.
  • Maintain good relations with contractors, architects, engineers, public utilities and private parties engaged in the use and installation of electrical equipment.
  • Answers questions about NEC, and Washington State wiring rules and regulations.
  • Issue electrical fee due notices.


Desired Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Washington State Journeyman Electrician Certificate (EL01) and four years experience as a certified journeyman electrician installing and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment

Preferred Qualification:

Washington State General Administrator Certificate (AD01) or General Electrical Master Journeyman Electrician Certificate (ME01).


Knowledge of:

How the NEC and WAC 296-46B apply to all commercial, industrial and residential electrical installations and the calculation of loads in those installations.

 

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Explain electrical trade rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Use personal computers, email, Internet, and MS Word.
  • Crawl under buildings and into attics, climb ladders and scaffolding, and enter "confined spaces", (after following proper procedure for testing), to perform electrical inspections.
  • Read and interpret plans and blueprints of electrical installations.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes.
  • Keep current and trained in applicable electrical codes and laws.

  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
