Job Summary:

Labor and Industries Auditors ensure that employers have a workers compensation account and pay the correct premiums based on the amount of their employment and risk classifications for their businesses. This position detects non-compliance by employers with workers compensation laws and rules. Identifies the best audit candidates based on expected outcome and degree of non-compliance and creates assignments for the audit program.

Auditor Detection Specialist will:
  • Review referrals submitted by agency staff and customers outside the agency for audit assignments
  • Perform research and review the results of data queries designed to identify non-compliant or misreporting.
    Identify accounts or range of accounts within the threshold for audit assignments.
  • Evaluate the likely value of each account for the audit program.
  • Identify the information developed that indicates non-compliance or misreporting to guide the auditor to the optimum audit outcome.
  • Provide feedback to the submitter regarding missing information, errors or problems with referrals.
  • Screen available information and identify established criteria that indicate specific elements of non-compliance or misreporting and rank assignments based on the value of applicable criteria.
  • Assist in identifying the most effective ranking criteria and adjusting individual criteria values based on audit outcomes.
  • Research the laws and rules to understand and stay current with the taxing and licensing requirements of employers across all industries.



Preferred Qualification:

A Bachelor's Degree and 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting AND four years of professional accounting or 2 years of auditing experience.

 

Knowledge application of:

Generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards.

  • Collect, organize, and document data and information for subsequent assessment, analysis, and investigation.
  • Build and maintain effective networks, contacts and relationships inside and outside the agency.
