Job Summary:

The Emergency Management Coordinator is a designated safety and health technical expert within the statewide agency Internal Safety & Health Program. This position is responsible for administering, developing and implementing emergency response plans and business contingency plans for the agency. In addition they develop, administer, implement, and monitor the Internal Safety & Health accident prevention program to ensure compliance with Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration rules and agency policies and procedures.

Emergency Management Coordinator will:
  • Ensure agency compliance with safety and health standards such as hazard recognition, workplace violence prevention, defensive driving, and ergonomics.
  • Work with all levels of agency personnel and serves as the central point of contact for safety and health issues.
  • Ensure agency compliance with state regulations regarding emergency response and business continuity.
  • Collaborate with outside entities, i.e. local fire departments and the state’s Emergency Management Division.
  • Respond to medical emergencies at central office.
  • Inventory and maintain emergency response supplies.
  • Work closely with supervisors, staff and Facilities Management to ensure workstation and ergonomic concerns and issues are resolved.
  • Serve as agency resource and internal safety and health technical expert.
  • Conduct accident/incident and near miss investigations.
  • Provide recommendations to managers/supervisors for the elimination of hazards.
  • Work closely with the Human Resource Consultants when investigations involve personnel issues and Facilities Management when hazards are identified relating to the building or grounds.



Preferred Qualification:

Four years as a Safety & Health Specialist or Industrial Hygienist or a Bachelor’s degree and four years experience as a Safety & Health Officer, Consultant, Inspector or related experience.

Three years experience in emergency management including continuity of operations planning.

First Aid & CPR certified instructor.

 

Knowledge of:

Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration (WISHA) rules and Internal Safety & Health policies

  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
