We are seeking your Spanish bilingual skills to read, write and translate for the Claims Unit at the Department of Labor and Industries.

Job Summary:

This position is a member of the Translation Unit that provides high quality customer service to external customers. This person will be translating letters from English to Spanish majority of the time and answering a high volume of telephone calls, in both Spanish and English, and performing a variety of complex clerical support duties.

The Spanish bilingual Office Assistant will:
  • Assist customers in resolving problems with insurance claim issues.
  • Provide timely answers to customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Transcribe information gathered by phone into computer system.
  • Review and sort claim related documents in electronic mailboxes and translate letters from Spanish to English.
  • Advise providers on rules and procedures; screen claim file requests; update computer or log for tracking purposes.


Preferred Qualification:

Type a minimum of 25 words per minute accurately.

Office clerical experience

*Must be fluent in both Spanish and English languages and must be able to write accurately in Spanish.

 

Knowledge of:

MS Excel to maintain a spreadsheet that contains translation statistics and MS Word to translate letters

 

Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English fluently.
  • Provide prompt customer service to the high volume of telephone inquiries.
  • Effective listening and telephone techniques.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Explain general information regarding rules, rights, regulations, policies, procedures, programs or services to both English and Spanish speaking customers.
  • Resolve problems; handle stressful situations and make timely decisions.
  • Work calmly and accurately, while assisting upset or confused customers.
  • Prioritize and perform multiple tasks while handling interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.

 

Special Note:
  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
