Industrial Relations Agents investigate wage disputes and apply Employment law and the Public Works Act. They mediate and negotiate settlements between employers and employees. If violations are determined, they negotiate restitution of wages and future compliance. You’ll become familiar with laws, utilize your analytical skill, and make a difference in the lives of others.


 
Preferred Qualification:

Bachelors degree AND two years relevant experience.
This experience could be gained in labor/employment relations, collection of revenue or taxes from employer/businesses, investigation of misconduct complaints, audit of employer financial records, or the interpretation/explanation of L&I rules and regulations or related experience.

Additional qualifying experience can substitute for education at the rate of 1 year experience for 2 years education.

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

Knowledge of:
  • Laws governing all phases of labor relations, general policies, principles and practices of labor and management;
  • State wage and hour laws and related federal laws and regulations; contracts and related labor relations;
 
Abilities:
  • Ability to apply knowledge to mediation, arbitration, and resolution; principles, standards and techniques of personal investigations; rules of evidence, auditing, accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to: interpret complex laws, rules and regulations; analyze issues involving wage disputes and formulate suggestions for compromise and settlement of disputes; prepare written documents; organize facts, arguments and conclusions in clear and logical sequence;
  • Gather, preserve and present material, relevant and pertinent evidence; exercise mature judgment in wide variety of public contact;

  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
