Seeking highly motivated Investigator with emphasis on strong writing and interpersonal communication skills to work in a fast paced investigation environment. Successful candidates will be able to produce detailed and thorough written investigative reports of their findings that include the negotiation of settlements with involved parties.

 

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of employer discrimination and retaliation from an injured worker who has sustained workplace injuries and is filing an injury claim or expressing the intent to file a claim.

 

The Industrial Insurance Discrimination Investigator will:
  • Interview employers, complainants, and witnesses.
  • Research records and obtain documentation related to case to either prove or disprove allegation.
  • Gather and preserve evidence to be used in legal proceedings.
  • Write and serve legal documents in accordance with established statutes, laws and regulations.
  • Negotiate settlements between involved parties.
  • Follow directions in conjunction with procedures and protocol in the investigation process.
  • Work with the Supervisor and/or Assistant Attorney General in the review and assessment of investigation cases.
  • Testify in legal or administrative hearings and trials.
  • Keep current with laws and procedures pertaining to investigative process of program.
  • Complete and submit four (4) acceptable investigation reports, each month, averaged over a quarter.



Preferred Qualifications:

Three years experience investigating personal backgrounds, unfair and deceptive business practices, insurance casualty claims, OR as an Investigator with a criminal justice agency or criminal investigative agency of the armed forces or other directly allied field.

 

Desired:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, law, criminal justice, political science, psychology or directly allied fields, a four year degree will substitute for one year of experience.

  • Conduct successful interviews with the ability to get to the truth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Research and gather information relevant to the investigation process.
  • Negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Testify in legal or administrative hearings or trials.
  • Obtain and serve legal documents in accordance with established statutes, laws and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Windows, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state to conduct investigations.


Special Note:
  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license.  Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
