Job Summary:

The Investigations Trainer provides the agency’s Investigations program staff around the state with the training necessary to perform their duties. This position reports to the Investigations Program Manager and serves as their assistant in the development of quality assurance standards and procedures. In addition, the Investigations Trainer conducts periodic quality assurance surveys and inspections to evaluate training needs and development of policies and procedures.

 

The Investigations Trainer will:
  • Provide CORE and Advanced investigator training as mandated by Executive Order.
  • Develop, coordinate, update, and modify statewide Investigations Program Training Manual and material.
  • Identify and analyze tasks and develop training curriculum to reflect skill and knowledge necessary for staff to function effectively.
  • Develop plans, policies, and procedures to assure uniform operations, reports, and conformance standards.
  • Work with the Program Manager to develop and maintains a Quality Assurance/Quality Control process.
  • Research, organize and analyze investigative data and findings and prepare detailed reports of findings for program/departmental review.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experienced trainer who has developed and presented training to law enforcement or criminal investigative personnel with

Three years of experience as an Investigator in State service,
OR;
Six years of experience as an investigator with a criminal justice agency or criminal investigative agency of the armed forces.

College-level course work with major emphasis in the criminal justice or law disciplines may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of college work for one year of experience, for all but four years of field experience.

 



Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Develop training curriculum and conduct training.
  • Identify, collect, organize, and document data/information and prepare, present, and write report of findings.
  • Organize multiple assignments with competing priorities.
  • Drive and travel for extended periods of time to perform duties across the state.
  • Use different types of media (overheads, PowerPoint, etc.) to present training.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Lift and carry approximately 50lbs.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.


Special Note:
  • Prior to any new appointment into L&I, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted.
  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license.  Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
