Our programs and policies are aimed at enhancing the outcomes of injured workers and preventing harm from improper medical procedures. You’ll work with highly dynamic, creative healthcare professionals of Labor & Industries.

 

The Medical Administrator, under direction of the Medical Director, will be accountable for efficient and effective implementation and outcomes (performance) measurement of all medical decision support to Insurance Services claims administration. Includes nursing services, utilization review, contracted medical consultant services, medical training for nursing staff and effective implementation of evidence-based coverage decisions.

In collaboration with Claims Administration and Health Services Analysis, you’ll develop a 6 year strategic plan for the Office of the Medical Director (OMD), including policy decision packages linked to performance measurement. The strategic plan will include successful implementation of performance measurement and tracking of medical decision support to claims activities. You’ll understand and help us implement health policy and effectively and efficiently translate policies to nonprofessionals.

The Medical Administrator functions as OMD’s liaison to L&I’s Claims Administration. You’ll work to promote an effective ongoing medical training program to the agency’s claims and medical staff in order to increase their capacity and knowledge by staying abreast of emerging medical issues and trends. Your understanding of how medical professionals interact with L&I claims staff will be key to successful outcomes.

You’ll strategically plan, lead, organize and assist in control of the work performed by the OMD organization, assuring appropriate and optimum use of the program’s resources.

 
Qualifications of the successful candidate are expected to include:
  • A degree in a relevant field and experience managing healthcare professionals is required.
  • Effective management skills within a healthcare environment, i.e., hospital administration, public health care administration and/or supervision of healthcare professional staff.
  • Successful experience in partnering with executive-level management.
  • Excellent program management experience.
  • Skilled in performance management and staff development.
  • Skilled at clear, effective, and professional verbal and written communication.
  • A background in workers’ compensation or large health insurance or health care organization preferred.

 

Skills:
  • Provide oversight of internet applications, created by technical staff, which communicate and market our policies, guidelines, medical information and training.
  • Oversee tracking and reporting systems in order to enhance medical effectiveness and efficiency to agency’s adjudicative staff.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Effectively and efficiently translate policies to nonprofessionals.

 

Compensation:

WMS Band 3 $68,232 – 94,380 annually depending on qualifications.
