Kubota Corporation produces and markets various models of tractors in the USA, Japan, and many other countries throughout the world. Those built for the USA are designed specifically for use in the USA and must meet applicable OSHA, SAE, or other safety regulations and standards. Those built for the use in other countries do not have to meet these safety specifications.
Some models of Kubota tractors originally sold in Japan have been refurbished in Japan, then imported to the USA and sold by non-authorized dealers. These tractors are known as "gray market" tractors and do not meet any applicable OSHA, SAE, or other equivalent safety standards. They are being sold without essential safety guards such as rollover protective structures (ROPS), seat belts, safety decals, PTO master shields, and proper Operator's Manuals. For safety's sake, Labor and Industries recommends that all tractors be equipped with all safety equipment. But in addition, L&I reminds employers that if the tractor is operated by an employee covered by WISHA, state law requires that the tractor meet all applicable safety requirements. One way to recognize a "gray market" tractor is to look at the plate which contains the model number and serial number of the tractor. If the unit was produced in Japan, the tag most likely will be printed in Japanese. Authorized Kubota dealers in the USA are not equipped to provide parts for the "gray market " Kubota tractors. If you believe you have a "gray market" tractor, call the Kubota Tractor dealer in your area or Kubota Tractor Corporation, Torrance, California.
The following is the most current list (February, 1996) of models for the Japanese market and probable "gray market " tractors.

Although these model numbers are common in the USA and Japanese Kubota models, there are material differences (no rollbar, etc.) between the models.
