Competent Person

A competent person is there to ensure things are done correctly and to take prompt action when safety issues arise.

A competent person identifies existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions such as:

  • asbestos
  • excavation
  • demolition
  • scaffold setup and removal
  • falls
  • ladder use
The competent person must have authority and expertise to promptly address and correct workplace hazards and train workers to ensure their safety and health on the job.
