Safety and Health Investment Projects (SHIP) grants are awarded to projects directed at preventing workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in Washington State. Priority for funding will be given to proposals that involve cooperation between employers and employees or their representatives. Rules governing the grant program are found in WAC 296-900-175.
The SHIP program is currently accepting grant applications! Completed applications must be received or post marked no later than August 31, 2009. The revised SHIP grant application form and detailed instructions are available on this Web site (198 KB DOC). Applications submitted on previous forms of the SHIP application will not be accepted.
Grant criteria and funding limits:
Grant proposals must be for the express purpose of reducing workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
Eligibility rules for applicants and for projects are specified in the application instruction booklet and in WAC 296-900-175.
An estimated $2,500,000 is available to fund grants in this grant funding cycle. Grant requests for this cycle should generally not exceed $250,000 (SHIP may, at its sole discretion, consider larger requests but only on a case-by-case basis).
Grant requests must compete within one of two size ranges:
up to $80,000
$80,000 – $250,000
Grants that are approved in this cycle should expect to begin receiving funds and start work beginning in January 2010.
Funded applicants will be required to attend one of several available grantee orientations (to be scheduled in January 2010).
Products and materials created or developed using SHIP grant money must be made available for distribution by L&I to any workplace that can benefit from their use.
