Workers in most industries can be exposed to falls from unguarded areas such as the following:
- Walkways.
- Windows and wall openings in construction.
- Open manholes.
- Skylights.
- Platforms.
- Stairways.
Guard rails, hand rails, and covers are a key solution to preventing falls and protecting workers from serious injuries or death.
As part of a required Accident Prevention Program, conduct a safety walk through of the job site and/or work areas to identify potential hazards where guard rails, hand rails or both may be needed.
