Elevator Mechanic

to clarify the minimum qualifications an applicant needs in order to

What you need to know
- You must be an employee of a licensed elevator contractor.
The contractor must furnish acceptable proof of your competency regarding
the mechanical and electrical operation, construction, installation,
alteration, maintenance, inspection, relocation, and repair of conveyances
as the Department of Labor and Industries may require.
- The license is issued for particular elevators or geographical
areas as designated on the application, and otherwise entitles
the licensee to the rights and privileges of an elevator mechanic license
issued under RCW 70.87.
- The license is valid for a period of thirty days from the date of issuance.
What you have to do
- Make sure that you don't have any outstanding, unpaid infractions with L&I or unpaid state-ordered child support payments.
- Print the license application and fill it out.

- Gather the supporting documentation to verify your experience
and education.
You will need to attach this information when you submit your application.

- Pay the $27.20 application fee and submit your application and
documentation. (See Licensing Fees page.)
There are three ways you can do this:
- Pay
online via L&I’s Get or Renew a License (QuickCards)
system.
Then mail your completed application and experience/education
documentation to L&I's elevator program at the address indicated
on the application form.

- Mail your application fee (check or money order),
your application and your experience/education documentation to L&I's
elevator program at the address indicated on the application form.
— OR —
- Go to one of
L&I's 20 service locations where you can pay your
application fee (check, money order or credit card) and submit your
application and experience/education documentation.
What L&I will do
Once your application is received, L&I staff will contact you by mail
to request additional documentation of your qualifying experience or education,
if needed.
Once L&I has your completed application and supporting documentation,
the agency will:
- Send you a receipt verifying your status as a Temporary Licensed
Elevator Mechanic.

- Deny your application.
