Safety and health 'team up' for governor's conference in Spokane

TUMWATER - Make reservations now to attend the 47th annual Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Conference, "Safety and Health. a Winning Team," scheduled Oct. 29 and 30 at the Spokane Convention Center.

The two-day safety-and-health spectacular offers ideas and information for resolving today's complex safety and health issues. Each year the conference attracts upward of 3,000 safety and health professionals who come to find practical solutions and learn about the latest tools, technologies and strategies for workplace safety and health.

The $45 conference fee includes seven blockbuster presentations, scores of workshops and panel discussions, a vendor fair and exhibits, demonstrations and more.

Attendees can see real-life heroes and heroines who've saved a life during the past year be honored with the Governor's Life Saving Award. Attend the Retrospective Rating Symposium. See the state's best utility crews show their skill and expertise in the Poletop Rescue Competition. And, observe the first-ever Forklift Rodeo finals where forklift operators compete for cash for forklift safety driving skills.

The keynote address will be given by John Nance, renowned pilot, author and safety expert for ABC and PBS.

Other opportunities include an OSHA Record-keeping Workshop, School-to-Work program, Thermo-man Demonstration, and the chance to earn continuing education credits through the University of Washington's (UW) professional development seminar on the new respiratory regulations.

The intent of the conference is to exchange information and ideas to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses and reduce costs, both in human and economic terms. The location of the conference alternates each year between Seattle and Spokane.
