Registration begins for worker safety and health conference

TUMWATER — Registration is now open for the 55th annual Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference Sept. 27 and 28 at the Spokane Convention Center.

The conference, co-sponsored by the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and Department of Labor & Industries, is one of the largest of its kind in the nation and draws thousands of workers, employers and safety and health professionals. This year’s theme is "Safety and Health: Not just a Job, It’s a Way of Life.”
 
Gov. Chris Gregoire is scheduled to open the conference and present several lifesaving awards. The keynote speaker is Bruce Wilkinson, a safety-and-health professional whose enthusiastic and fun-filled program will demonstrate unique ways that organizations can communicate and motivate managers and employees to work safely.

Featured conference events and activities include: 

  1. 70-plus industry workshops.
  2. Displays and product demonstrations by more than 100 exhibitors.
  3. 33rd Pole-top Rescue Competition and 9th Forklift Rodeo.
  4. Demonstration of rope-rescue techniques for remote locations.
  5. A separate, free program geared specifically for small business.
  6. Demonstration of the dangers of electrical power.

A $120 advance registration fee covers the two-day event; cost at the door is $140 per person. Groups of 25 or more pay $90 each, and students and apprentices pay only $20 each. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Aug. 31, and online registration closes Sept. 15.
