Safety conference accepting nominations for lifesaving awards

TUMWATER — Do you know of someone who was at the right place, at the right time and did the right thing to save a life? If so, the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board is accepting nominations for the governor’s annual lifesaving awards.

All Washington workers covered by the workers’ compensation system or a self-insured employer are eligible for the lifesaving nomination. The heroic act must have taken place between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009, any day or time, anywhere in the world.

The nominee must have performed “hands-on” aid in saving a life. For law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other similar professions, the lifesaving action must not be part of their normal job duties, but must be “above and beyond the line of duty.”

Award recipients will be featured guests at the 58th Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference Oct. 7-8 at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. The conference is sponsored by the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and the Department of Labor & Industries.

For a lifesaving nomination form and additional information, contact Barbara Saunders, lifesaving award coordinator, at 360-902-5442. Nomination forms are also available and can be submitted online at www.wagovconf.org/lifesaving.htm. Deadline for submitting applications is June 30.

For more information about the conference, call toll-free 1-888-451-2004. TDD users may call 360-902-5797.
