Employer’s Responsibilities for Keeping a Safe Workplace

Under state law, an employer is required to provide a workplace that is free from recognized hazards that may cause death or serious harm to workers. To do this, employer must:

• Comply with workplace safety and health core rules administered by DOSH Services Division of L&I. These rules address:
  • Personal protective equipment for workers
  • Prompt communication to workers about chemical hazards
  • Required accident prevention program and safety committee
  • Other employer responsibilities for providing a safe workplace
• Follow any additional rules for their specific business or industry, like noise control, confined space, forklift safety and respiratory protection.
• Post the Job Safety and Health Protection poster where workers can see it.
