Puget Sound Energy is accepting applications for future Apprentice openings at locations throughout the Puget Sound area!

These are safety sensitive positions, subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing, and IBEW Represented. Successful candidates will become members of the Local Union. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of high school level algebra with a grade of C or better and have successfully completed a basic electricity course.

Puget Sound Energy is seeking persons interested in apprenticeship opportunities in the energy sector. Apprenticeships are regular, full time opportunities and are located throughout the Puget Sound Region.
 Applications will be accepted year-round for the 5 apprenticeship programs available at Puget Sound Energy.
 Journey worker programs are available in: Substation Wire; Hydro Electrician; Hydro Mechanic; Electric Meter; and Combustion Turbine Specialist.
 Minimum requirements:

  • 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 full year of high school level algebra with a grade of “C” or better.
  • Successful completion of a Basic Electricity Course.

Process Overview:

  • Applicants with the minimum requirements will be invited to sit for the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee aptitude examination for the electrical industry as well as a test of basic electrical knowledge. You must score a rating of 4 or better on the NJATC test and 80% or better on the basic electrical knowledge test.
  • Testing is offered twice a year for all programs in spring and fall. The next test is anticipated to occur on November 19, 2009 in Bellevue, WA.
  • Applicants successfully passing both examinations will be invited to the interview process for ranking candidates for entry into the apprentice-qualified pool.
  • As apprentice positions become available, they will be offered to those in the apprentice-qualified pool.
  • Upon completion of your on-line application, a full packet of apprenticeship required forms and materials will be sent to you for completion and submission prior to testing. All application packets must be returned to PSE by October 30, 2009.

Other:

  • These are safety sensitive positions subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • These are IBEW Represented positions and the successful candidates will become members of the IBEW.

Transtech Electric Inc. Apprenticeship Committee (Program 629)

Occupation: Outdoor Lighting and Traffic Signal Installer

The term of apprenticeship is 8,000 hours, and four years of Related Supplemental Instruction equaling not less than 192 hours per year.

Applications are taken year round Monday through Friday at the main office in Kent for the program.  Call the number below for address and directions.

The minimum qualifications required for a candidate to be granted an interview are as follows:

Age: Applicants shall be 18 years of age or older.
Education: High school graduate or possession of a GED is required.  Applicants must have transcript showing successful completion (grade C or better) for one year of high school Algebra or Geometry, or one full credit quarter or semester at an accredited university or community college.
Physical: Applicants must be capable of performing the work of the Electrical construction trade.
Testing: None.
Other: Applicants must submit a valid Washington State Driver’s license and have the ability to obtain a Class B CDL license within a reasonable amount of time (approximately 60 days from date of hire).  Applicants have 60 days from time of application to submit verification of age, education level and WSDL.

No person will be granted an interview that has not yet met the above requirements.
