Washington State Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) - Worker Health Module

Public health importance of WA BRFSS Worker Health Module

On average, American adults spend more than half of their waking hours at work. Work is a social determinant of health. Occupation is also related to other determinants such as educational attainment and income. Occupational disparities exist in health status, health-related benefits, health care access, and worksite wellness programs.

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is an annual telephone survey that collects data on emerging public health issues, health conditions, risk factors and behaviors. The Dept. of Health operates BRFSS in Washington. Through successful collaboration with Washington Dept. of Health, SHARP collects industry and occupation information and uses this information on topics that are important to Washington workers, such as work-related injury and reporting, prevalence of chronic diseases, and health risk factors.
