We are now offering the certification test remotely. See the "Successfully pass the test" section below for instructions on how to register.
During the past year, L&I was not able to offer in-person testing due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing. To allow more time for those who need to take the claim administrator certification test, L&I will not begin enforcement of the July 1, 2021 requirement for claim administrators to become certified until January 1, 2022.
To get L&I approved claim administrator certification, you must take the following steps:
To be eligible, you must have a minimum of 1 year of work experience in the administration or oversight of claims under Title 51 RCW.
The work experience must have occurred within the 5 years immediately prior to applying per WAC 296-15-360.
Take required training
You must complete L&I approved goal-oriented core curriculum training courses.
An exemption from the core curriculum training is extended to January 1, 2022 for claim administrators who have the required work experience.
Successfully pass the test
Please log into your SICATS account to register for the claims administrator certification test. Our Trainers will respond with additional details when your testing request is approved. If you have questions or receive an error message, please contact us using the SI Trainer mailbox at SITrainerQuestions@lni.wa.gov.
The testing availability will be Monday through Friday during business hours. You will be able to request any time slot that is available in the SICATS system.
After passing the test, you will be designated as a certified claim administrator.
Maintain your status
To maintain a certified claim administrator status, you must provide documentation that you completed 45 qualifying credits of continuing education over each consecutive 3-year period. Five of these credits may be safety related.
