Details

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) initiated this rulemaking to better align chapter 296-304 WAC, Safety standards for ship repairing, shipbuilding and shipbreaking, with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) personal protective equipment requirements for eye and face protection for Shipyard Employment found at 29 CFR 1915, Subpart I. This rulemaking may incorporate other housekeeping and formatting changes as well.

Summary of rulemaking activity:
DOSH shared draft language with parties interested in the ship repairing, shipbuilding and shipbreaking industry during two previous stakeholder meetings. Thank you to all who attended and provided input. The feedback received at the meetings helped us remove confusing and unnecessary language and add clarification where necessary throughout the rule.
DOSH filed a CR-101 Preproposal Statement of Inquiry on July 5, 2022, for chapter 296-304 WAC, Safety standards for ship repairing, shipbuilding and shipbreaking.

DOSH invites parties interested in the ship repairing, shipbuilding and shipbreaking industry to attend an upcoming virtual stakeholder meeting to review the revised draft.
